| theres nothing wrong with having the crank turned down and sending it in to be renitrided. A virgin crank isn't really going to be any better than one you have turned down and hardened again. The only thing that you'd have piece of mind in is knowing its a untouched crank..which is fine but when you machine and hardened the crank again, most times you'll have a deeper saturation hardening done that is better than what the factory has done. I've used machined cranks in some of my builds and they've worked out exceptionally well but you HAVE to do the right steps in getting it done properly.
